Vietnam War Memorial in NYC

This 16 foot high by 66 foot long glass wall was created in lower Manhattan in collaboration with Wormser and Fellows Architects. The glass blocks are deep carved with approximately 27,000 characters from letters the Veterans wrote home to their loved ones during the war.

Interior illumination shows the beautiful translucency of the sculpted glass blocks making this a unique tribute to the heroes who gave their lives for our country.

Sculpting the characters into the glass was an emotional experience at times. "(after) working for two or three days, you'd come to the block that said 'Major Michael O'Donnell, KIA', and you'd realize that this person (whose most intimate thoughts you had been reading) died the next day". Quote from Interview, The McNeil Lehrer News Hour, PBS, 1985.
